Longevity is giving individuals and organizations
a blank canvas to paint on
Let's paint an opportunity.
Longevity is here, but its potential is not fully understood yet.
For individuals, the main opportunity lies in making the most of the new life stage that longevity has created. The second 50 years of human can be the best, but this requires the ability to visualize one’s future-self and the willingness to help it come to life. It crucially also requires, for most people, a change in mindset and a new understanding of what it means to age.
For organizations, opportunities offered by longevity are both external and internal (and the two are interconnected). To maximise tthem, organizations should make sure that their offer is palatable to an ageing demographic and that their front-end employees know how to deal with older individuals. Internally, they should ensure that the 4 or 5 generations know how to work together to create synergies, avoid any form of ageism and engage and train employees of all ages so they can fully contribute and feel included.
Are beliefs and our actions will shape how longevity impacts us.
Become who you were meant to be
By adding lifespan and healthspan to people's lives, longevity is giving us extra time to realise our full potential.
1.
Longevity has added more than 20 years to our life expectancy since 1950. Statistically, most of them will be in good health (and you can improve your outcomes following some simple guidelines).
2.
The number of years people lived after age 50 used to be a fraction of the first 50. This is no longer true: the second part of our lives has gained years and relevance.
3.
The second 50 years of people’s lives can be, for the most part, just as good, or even better, than the first. Unfortunately, that’s not what we have been told all along: the main narrative around ageing is decline, with its progressive reduction of possibilities and expectations. Retirement in particular, as the word implies, marks the official withdrawal from active participation to society.
This website tells a different and more empowering story about ageing.
The story is not science-fiction or wishful thinking, but it requires individuals to co-create it.
We can support you in doing that.
Longevity is the biggest opportunity
of the 21st century.
The Financial Times
This is what organizations can do to unlock the opportunity:
1.
Make the most of the Silver Economy opportunity by managing the business implications of an ageing population. This crucially requires a good understanding the needs of older customers internally and in the front-end.
2.
Leverage an intergenerational workforce. An age-diverse workforce coupled with a culture of inclusivity allows organizations to harness the unique strengths and perspectives of different age groups.
3.
Engage 50+ employees to ensure they pass-the-torch to new generations, to ensure they give the important contribution they are capable of and avoid “quiet quitting”. This demographic, which will stay in the organization longer and is very relevant, but may benefit from some rekindling.
4.
Manage extended career paths to tap on your pool of mature and experienced professionals who may choose to work for more years. Phased retirement plans, flexible and remote work arrangements can make this possible.
Understanding the impact
of longevity
Being longevity literate means understanding the implications of an increased lifespan on you as an individual, on your organization and on society.
For individuals, longevity literacy is crucial for retirement planning.
Financial literacy is, of course, also critical, but the starting point is knowing your life expectancy (and that of your partner if you are in a relationship).
For organizations longevity literacy means being responsive to the needs of an ageing population and preparing to serve older demographics.
It also means being equipped to engage with 4 generations of employees, ensuring their respective needs are satisfied and helping them to mix and create value together

The Magic Power
of Starting Over
This book tells the stories of both famous and everyday people who have started their lives over from scratch: some out of necessity, due to failure or a stroke of bad luck, others by choice, because they wanted to seize an opportunity or give space to their talents.
From these stories—diverse yet united by the difficulties and fears that accompany new beginnings—the author has distilled lessons and inspirations that help approach them with a positive mindset.
The best 50 years.
Rediscovering and Reinventing Yourself
in the Second Half of Life
Being over fifty saves you from the question that stresses out young people—”What do you want to be when you grow up?”—but it presents two risks. The first is forgetting to make meaningful plans. The second is believing that you’ve already reached your full potential and that there’s no room for further growth.
It’s often said, as a form of encouragement, that sixty is the new forty. The assumption behind this is that, from fifty onwards, a person’s abilities gradually diminish, and opportunities decrease. In this book, I explain how to avoid letting the second half of life become a faded replica of the first, and I reveal its unique potential. The book guides the reader, through the seven legs of a journey of self-discovery, in rethinking what it means to be over fifty in our era and in focusing on new projects. By the end of the journey, the reader will have discovered the unique possibilities available in the second-half of one’s life and how to make the second fifty years, the best.
NOTE: THE BOOK IS COMING OUT IN JANUARY 2025, WITH A PRE-LAUNCH IN DECEMBER 2024. THE COVER IS NOT FINAL YET, BUT WILL BE ABOUT A TREE WITH DEEP ROOTS AND MANY BRANCHES WITH LEAVES.
